Baby whale

March 11, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Dad and I went to Muriwai beach and we drove up the beach. We saw a baby whale. It had no blow hole and had not long been born. When we first saw it, we thought it was a log. We think it was a sperm whale. Dad and I were the first to see it as there were no other tyre tracks around the whale. It still had its umbilical cord on it. I felt really sad about the whale.

By Carter

*Carter’s family reported their finding to DOC and they came out and saw the whale. Initial thoughts were that it was a premature foetus*
