When Polly came to stay with my brother Cohen and I, we went to the Awhitu Regional Park for the afternoon. We saw lots of different native birds and lots of tuna (eels). Our walk ended at the wetlands. The wetlands at the Awhitu Regional Park were drained for farmland, but then, people realised just how important they are to the environment. A lot of work has gone into replanting and restoring the wetlands there. Different local groups are working to maintain the wetlands in the area, as well as local iwi, Ngati te Ata. The wetlands here are one of our favourite places to explore. We loved sharing it with Polly.
