Polly Pekapeka visits Zoe

May 28, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our Manu | Bird of the Year 2021) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In May 2022, Polly went to stay with Zoe (age 8) in Auckland. Here’s what they got up to together…

One Sunday morning, okay maybe not just any Sunday… You want to know that particular Sunday? Ok, l can tell you, it was… Mothers Day. l told you, so what’s all the commotion about? My family and l, l can’t forget Polly, we drove to New Lynn and took the train to the city with our scooters. I don’t think Polly had been in a train before – she fluttered through the carriage, swung on the handles, and found her own seat for an exciting trip to Britomart 🙂

When we arrived, we hopped off the train and memorised the area. We scootered to the cafe, with Polly cruising on the handlebars, peering out of my bag at all the traffic and people in downtown.

At the cafe, we had to wait for ages for our food, but when we finally got it, Polly couldn’t stop nibbling! However, she was picky. She only wanted one thing…. all the berries from my waffle! She realised everyone was looking at her, so she hid under the table like in a cave.

After the cafe, we visited some special places, including the lion sculpture – who was hungry, but don’t worry, we rescued her in time!

Our last trip was to the State House sculpture on the port. Polly loved the view of boats and islands in the distance and almost dived into the ocean!

By the afternoon, Polly was so tired and lazy that she took the escalator downstairs to the train instead of flying!

She had a great time with us, and I bet is excited for her next trip with one of you.

Polly’s first time on a train sounds great Zoe! Thanks for taking her on this adventure 🙂
