Polly Pekapeka visits Hazel

June 7, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our Manu | Bird of the Year 2021) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In May 2022, Polly went to stay with Hazel (age 10) in Gisborne. Here’s what they got up to together…

My name is Hazel, and I am 10 years old. Polly Pekapeka came to visit me, so I took her to school to meet my friends at school.

Polly came to school and saw our garden.  Jack, William, and Pete showed Polly how to tend the garden.  She watched from a nearby perch to make sure they did a good job.

Polly checked out the flowers we planted to attract the bees.  The yellow ones were her favourite.

At my school, there is a friendship seat in the Koru Garden.  My friends Sienna and Holly showed Polly where to make friends, and Sienna showed Polly the school sign.

Polly came back to my house and hung out in my tree house.  We swung in the trees and looked out over the macadamia trees and the grape vines.

There is an enormous tree in our front yard and Polly climbed all the way to the top. She liked being in the trees.

While Polly was here, she saw the eclipse with me too.

Gisborne is a beautiful place to visit.  Polly really enjoyed her visit.

What a neat adventure! Thanks for sharing your home with Polly 🦇
