Polly Pekapeka visits Hanmer Springs School

July 23, 2024 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our KCC Mascot) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In June/July 2024, Polly visited Pīwakawaka Class in Hanmer Springs. Here’s what they got up to together…

Polly Pekapeka had lots of fun when she came to visit us in Hanmer Springs. She loved exploring all of the beautiful nature we are lucky to be surrounded with.

Polly Pekapeka went for a walk in the Hanmer Springs forest with Leia. They enjoyed their walk along the Fairy Doors and liked looking at the different fairy houses. Polly showed Leia how she could hang upside down in the tree.

Polly was so lucky to meet Elgregoe the magician. She enjoyed watching the magic tricks and illusions that Elgregoe performed and she loved learning about being caring, accepting, responsible, respectful and trustworthy. She thought the birds were really cool and loved the colourful macaw and the parrot that talked!

Polly had a fun weekend with Stirling. She went to explore MacKintosh Beach. It was a lovely sunny day, and they explored the rocks and the sand, hunting for shells and stones. They also looked for fossils in the limestone cliff.

Polly Pekapeka had fun in the trees with Josie. They went to the park and had fun on the swing and the slide. She enjoyed exploring Josie’s farm and seeing all of the animals.

Polly Pekapeka enjoyed spending time with Mason. He liked exploring more trees in Hanmer Springs and went up high into the branches.

Elijah took Polly Pekapeka for a walk around the Fairy Doors in the Hanmer Springs forest. Polly thought the doors were very colourful and she loved seeing them all.

Polly Pekapeka had fun celebrating Matariki, the Māori New Year on our school Matariki Day. She enjoyed making flax flowers with the class.

Pax enjoyed spending time with Polly Pekapeka in the dark. She enjoyed flying around in the dark and exploring Hanmer Springs.

Polly Pekapeka enjoyed exploring more trees and bushes with Harper. She thought it was a bit cold outside in the winter air.

Emma had fun exploring Hanmer Springs with Polly Pekapeka. She drew a lovely picture.

Nabi and Polly Pekepeka had fun exploring the Queen Mary Hospital grounds in Hanmer Springs. Polly liked flying up into the tall trees. She had a great view from the top.

Oscar took Polly Pekapeka to his football training. Afterwards they explored the Hanmer Springs and they had fun playing outside.

Polly Pekapeka was lucky to meet Harold the Giraffe on his visit to our school with the Life Education van.

We have enjoyed writing about pekapeka. We did some information report writing and wrote some facts about pekapeka and we have written some narrative stories about Polly.

We had so much fun with Polly Pekapeka. Thank you for visiting us, Polly. Enjoy your next visit.
