Litter

January 30, 2023 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

My name is Natasha and I am 9 years old.  I love looking after the environment and studying animals.  I love to learn about ocean animals and climate change, and I want to be a marine biologist when I grow up.

Today I went for a walk along the Whitireia coast and I saw a dead stingray.  I also found a crab shell that I brought home to keep as an ornament.  My mum and I collected rubbish along the coast and we filled this bag (picture below).  We picked up cardboard, aluminium cans, dog waste bags, and even a used nappy! We wore our gloves.

Here is a picture of what we picked up over our 2km walk taken outside Kahutea Stream, Titahi Bay. Behind me is a sign with a picture drawn by the children of the local day care centre, All About Children, asking locals to help look after the stream so the eels can swim.  My little brother Ollie’s picture is one of the drawings on the sign.
