Cleaning up the environment!

March 17, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

My name is Finlay. I am 5 years old. I am part of St Joseph’s Kea Scouts. Listen up about what we did to help our environment!

My cool uniform

We went to our local park, Maidstone, to help clean it up. We wanted to help keep it nice for people to use, and for the animals who live there too. Picking up litter is good for the environment.

We put on gloves and hi-vis vests, and if you had grabber claws at your home, you brought them along. This was so we could pick up rubbish safely. You need to be safe, so you don’t get germs on your hands. We walked around the park and helped clean up. In the bushes, there was so much rubbish! We ended up collecting three rubbish bags full of litter! Litter is another word for garbage.

Me in hi-vis

Picking rubbish up helps to keep the world clean. Litter can make the earth, and animals that live on it, sick. When you work so hard to clean rubbish up and you see people throwing their rubbish on the ground, it makes you feel sad. You can help by recycling, reusing, and reducing your waste.

And please, put your rubbish in the bin!
