Do you know the kiwi is a native bird to New Zealand? It’s survival is in our hands!
Appearance
Kiwi have tiny wings, which causes their inability to fly. Most birds have tails but this one doesn’t. Kiwi’s legs are giant and strong for kicking preadators and running away. Since kiwi are blind they have a long beak to grab under-ground food and smell far away. Kiwi have a dark shade of brown for feathers, that’s because of need to blend in.
Behaviour
Kiwi are flightless because of their wings, they are too tiny. Kiwi dig burrows for homes. They also use the burrows as nests.
Diets
Kiwi eat invertebrates, seeds, worms, and maybe even eat fruit. Grubs are a main course for kiwi, they always turn up with one somehow.
Habitat
Some kiwi live in the South Island, national parks and in trees. They are also in the Kiwi House.
Predators
Kiwi are killed by stoats, dogs, possums, cats, and ferrets. Possums eat the eggs of kiwi.
