Polly Pekapeka (our KCC Mascot) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.
In Feb 2024, Polly visited Jessie (age 11) and Tegan (age 10) in Taupō. Here’s what they got up to together…
Nana took Polly to meet my sister, Tegan, on the swings after school. Polly wasn’t sure about having a swing but Tegan kept her safe.
On the weekend there was a Kinstock event where music, fun and shady trees featured so Polly Pekapeka came along to join the fun. There were some really big trees but no sign of her cousins there! She made friends though.
Nana took her to Opepe Reserve where some huge rimu, totora and matai and miro loomed abov, but no sign of Polly’s cousins there either! She really didn’t like the thunderstorm so she stayed hidden.
At our lifestyle block there were some interesting places to check out. Sitting on the fence is an adventure when the wire near Polly’s feet is live! I gave her flying lessons while striking ballet poses. Polly really liked that because we kept her in the shade. After that she was really tired and Nana made her a nice cosy dark bag to use as her travelling roost, from two old woolen socks.
Visiting the lake was fun, though Polly chose to hang out in a shady tree, while we had a swim.
Next the photo that is a must when visiting Taupō… The #LoveTaupō sign must be the most photographed site in Taupō where people from all over the world pose, and Polly Pekapeka is now able to boast that she has done that too, with us.
There were many other adventures possible, but Polly was getting homesick. Nana is off to Pureora Forest where Polly’s cousins are roosting, but it’s time to say goodbye to Polly.
