Polly Pekapeka visits Evelyn

February 7, 2024 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our KCC Mascot) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In Jan/Feb 2024, Polly visited Evelyn (age 7) in South Auckland. Here’s what they got up to together…

I took Polly Pekapeka to a sunflower farm. It was a hot day and there was no shade except for under the sunflowers. The sunflowers were bright yellow. I saw some bees landing on the sunflowers. The bees were collecting the pollen from the sunflower and taking it back to their hives to make honey. I saw birds eating the sunflower seeds from the dried up heads of the sunflowers that had fallen on the ground. The seeds were a black brown colour, small and shaped like an oval. All the sunflowers were facing the same way because they like to look at the sun. It was like a maze because the sunflowers were so tall and there were lots of different paths to follow.

Ka rawe Evelyn!
