In October 2022, Polly went to stay with Amelia (age 9) and Theo (age 5) in Inglewood. Here’s what they got up to together…
Polly Pekapeka came to stay with us during the October school holidays 2022. We went on a huge adventure.
First we went to the beach at Warea, which is around the coast from New Plymouth. It was a really stony beach so it was hard to walk on. We took my puppy Jasper along for the walk too. We picked up lots of rubbish from the beach and we got lots of milk bottles, bits of plastic, a glass bottle, and a plastic bag. We also found lots of sea sponges, pumice stones, and a few kina shells. At the end of the beach we climbed up a big hill which had a tall stick on top.
From the top of the hill we could see a big lighthouse, so we decided to go and check it out. When we got to the lighthouse we did some research and found out that it was Cape Egmont Lighthouse at Pungarehu. We found out that it is at the most western point of the Taranaki coastline and at night it flashes every 8 seconds. Also we found out that it was built in London, then used in Wellington, before being dismantled and brought to Taranaki. It was so windy at the lighthouse that Polly nearly blew away!
We loved having Polly Pekapeka to stay and hope she can come back to visit again for another adventure.
