In October members of the Manawatu KCC headed down to Foxton Estuary to welcome the godwit back to New Zealand shores. Foxton Estuary has been a RAMSAR site of international importance since 2005 which recognizes the estuaries’ importance for wading and shore bird species.

They spotted a flock of Godwit, four royal spoonbills, a white-faced heron and a tern, from the viewing platform. After viewing the birds they headed down to see what the birds had been feeding on, and with great delight they found rather a lot of mud crabs.
