Make a gulper eel sock puppet

You’ll need: an old black sock, scissors, hot glue gun/craft glue, two googly eyes, safety pin, black ribbon, a piece of black paper or felt, sellotape, a pink felt or coloured pencil, and a piece of white paper.

1. Use the instructions from this video to make the base of your puppet.

2. Cut triangles into two thin strips of white paper (or use pinking shears for paper if you have them). Hot glue the strips into the mouth like in the picture to make the sharp teeth of a gulper eel.

3. Glue on two small googly eyes too. Look at the picture for where to place them.

4. Cut a long length of black ribbon. Shape it so that it is it’s full thickness at the top, and tapers to being really thin at the end.

5. Cut out a small circle on your white paper and colour it all in pink. use the sellotape to stick it like a ball at the end ribbon (the thinness part) to make the pink light at the end of the tail. Look at the picture to see what it should look like.

6. Safety pin the tail at the thick end onto the top of the sock, like in the picture.

Here’s a video of a gulper eel filling up with water to scary away predators – doesn’t it look like a big black balloon!
