Polly Pekapeka visits Luka

July 5, 2024 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our KCC Mascot) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In June 2024, Polly visited Luka (age 6) in Ōtepoti | Dunedin. Here’s what they got up to together…

Luka had a great time with Polly visiting.

We got home in the dark from a midwinter lantern festival to find Polly had flown in and nested down in our letterbox. We brought her inside to meet Pinecone Pekapeka and they looked at the moon together and read some bedtime stories.

We also took Polly to the local beach and cave, and up to Orokonui Ecosanctuary to meet the various manu up there.

Polly also went to school where she slept in Luka’s bag, to the library to get out some insect books, and to a friend’s house to look at the stars.

Luka did a nice drawing of Polly and made her a plate of insects and fruits for nibbling on.

He will miss Polly and hope she can visit again.
