Morepork to the Rescue

June 29, 2020 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club
By Cooper

“Hey Barry come over here”, said Morepork Bill to his morepork mate.
“Sure but I don’t want to fly, there are kids near by and I want to scare them”, said Barry.

“Ready steady MOREPORK!” yelled Barry and Bill. “Yes we scared them but now we might get into trouble again”, said Bill. “There’s a chance that we might  be taken away by bird control so we need to fly away”, said Barry.
“We probably should go and meet up with Kyle the Kea”, said Bill.
“But if we do go to see him we will have to fly over all the rubbish in the forest”, replied  Barry.

“Well that is exactly why we are going to have a look at him”, said Bill. “We are going to ask for all his friends to help us pick up the rubbish”
“Cool, let’s get on with it then”, agreed Barry. “KYLE KYLE KYLE, where are you”, he yelled.

“BOO”, said someone from out of the bushes.

“That sounds like Kyle”, said Barry looking at Bill.
“You should have seen the look on you birdy faces”, laughed Kyle.
“Ha ha, very funny”, replied Bill and Barry “But we need you and all your friends to help us get rid of all the  rubbish”, said Barry.

“Ok, but I will be back in a little bit” said Kyle.
“Right but don’t be too long because there is not much time until sunrise”, said Bill.
“Ok I’ll be back”, replied Kyle.

A few moments later Kyle the Kea turned up  with a whole swarm of his family and friends.
“Is this enough for you, Barry and Bill?”  he asked.
“Yes, so let’s get to work”, said Barry.

After a few hours had gone by, the forest was nearly clear of rubbish. It was getting really dark so they  got on with finishing the job. Everyone was tired out and suddenly every bird fell asleep.

When Bill woke up in the morning  he asked, “Where are your friends and family?” Just then, Kyle suddenly woke up and replied that they had gone back to Arthur’s Pass. “I guess I should return there as well.” “Ok, sounds good”, said Barry.
“But the only thing is, if we need your help you will be quite some way away from us”, said Bill.
“Yeah, but I won’t be there for long”, replied Kyle. “All I want to do is steal some food and coffee from the visitors, it drives them nuts!”
“Ok, you can go do that and Bill and I will keep the forest clean, that’s right isn’t Bill?”
“Yep I guess”, agreed Bill. “We will see you soon before we wing our way back home to the forest.”
