In June 2022, Polly went to stay with Nathan (age 9) in Te Puke. Here’s what they got up to together…
Kia ora koutou! Ko Nathan toku ingoa, ko Te Puke ahau.
Polly Pekapeka had great adventures in Te Puke even though it rained a lot!
First we visited the giant kiwifruit in town. Polly camouflaged in a box of gold kiwifruit that were grown in Te Puke.
She had her first experience of riding a pony! He is named Kingi, is 23 years old, and loves hugs. Polly learnt about grooming and riding dressage too. She liked Kingi’s stable.
Polly Pekapeka helped me and my school friends at Fairhaven School learn about how we can trap pests that kill bats. I also learnt that bats like to make nests in fallen or old trees so we need to protect natural forests.
Then it was Matariki and Polly Pekapeka helped make stars made out of natural decorations like shells and seaweed. She came to Te Puke’s Matariki festival and enjoyed lots of awesome kapa haka from local schools. We also helped prepare the hangi, which takes a lot of team work at our school with whānau.
I really loved having Polly Pekapeka visit and I hope you enjoy my story.
