A Backyard Rescue

October 27, 2021 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

KCC member Annemarie (age 8)

It was the start of winter and it was getting dark.  Suddenly Kreech! broke the silence.  And then Kreech! again. So I went outside to see what was going on.  A big black cat had caught a bird.  Quite a big bird too. Was it a blackbird?  No.  A mynah?  No.  It was a kingfisher!I went to get Mum & Dad.  We all went outside.  I picked up the cat.  It dropped the bird.  Then Mum went to check on the bird.  The kingfisher picked itself up and then flew away.  The next day it came back and perched on the roof. The end.

To keep your cat away from birds, try this awesome cat collar! Make an anti-predation collar for your cat! – Kiwi Conservation Club (kcc.org.nz)
