Polly Pekapeka visits Cayleigh

August 17, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Polly Pekapeka (our Manu | Bird of the Year 2021) is looking for adventure, so she’s off visiting KCCers around Aotearoa – and beyond. Follow all her adventures out and about in nature HERE.

In July 2022, Polly went to stay with Cayleigh (age 9) in Hamilton. Here’s what they got up to together…

In the early morning at 6 o’clock we got in the car ready for our journey to Ruapehu. At 7 o’clock, the sunrise revealed a foggy atmosphere. Polly especially liked the pretty waterfalls and the forestry as well as some birds that looked like eagles.

Once the mountain was in sight, we had to drive through National Park. We also drove through Desert Road which was an actual really small desert and I saw lots of things that looked like watermelons. The road up the mountain was really steep and Polly was flying all over the place.

It was freezing cold and Polly had to put on her puffer jacket to keep nice and warm. Then, we went and did sledding where even Polly steered down the slippery slope. After that, we played in the snow on a gigantic hill with lots of snowmen. We even did a snowball fight where Polly threw a really big snowball. But before we knew it, we had to go home.

A wonderful wintery adventure!
