Our William Pike Challenge

August 30, 2018 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

By Isabella and Alamay

At our school we are doing this thing called the William Pike Challenge. In  the William Pike Challenge we have to complete certain tasks. They are: doing 20 hours of our passion project (which is starting a new activity we haven’t done before), doing multiple outdoor activities with our whole class, and 20 hours of community service.

Our  class were all given multiple options/examples for what we could do for community service. We (Alamay and Isabella) chose to volunteer at Forest and Bird’s National Office, because of our interest in our environment, and all the animals that live in it.

Since we have been volunteering here we have learnt so much about New Zealand’s  wild life and it’s native animals, both good and bad.  We learnt about new animals we didn’t even know existed, and we also realised that many of those animals are endangered  because of pollution and our humans mistakes.

Forest & Bird are a great community organisation that try really hard to keep our environment clean so everyone can enjoy it . While the work we have been doing here has mostly been in the office, we also did a bake sale to fundraise money for Forest and Bird. Here are some pictures:

Overall it has been a cool, fun, educational  new experience for us, and we enjoyed it very much.
