Injured chick saved

December 23, 2021 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

An adventure by Imogen, age 10

Bio: I live in Auckland and enjoy playing with my friends . I love animals and nature and have a grey cat called Hodge who will only chase butterflies. I enjoy going to Kawau island on my grannies boat and seeing all the wildlife. My favorite animals are tigers and māui dolphins. I  enjoy kayaking and swimming with my grannies dog Toby (in the picture of me).

I was happily laughing at my mum as she held a stick that she said would find treasure. Yeah, I believed her a bit  but then she shouted, “Imogen look” I stood up and saw a tiny, maybe a few days old, Minor bird chick who had probably fell from its nest. “Its dead” my mum said. But then it moved and cheeped for food. We ran back to our house, grabbed a box, put some tissues inside the box, then grabbed some string, and ran back to the chick who my dad lifted into the box. Then we hung the box onto the tree where we could just make out a nest above us. The next day we headed back and there was no chick in the box but also no blood so that means its parents came along and took it home. I was sad but knew survivor (that is what I named it) was back with her family. The end
