Titipounamu caught on camera

August 19, 2022 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Francesca Cunningham, our Forest & Bird Otago Projects Manager, sent us this amazing footage of titipounamu | rifleman collected during their nest monitoring work in Tautuku Forest!

As an ancient bird and cavity nester, titipounamu are vulnerable to predators like mice, and so the team have been checking in on them in the sites (places) they are breeding to check if there needs to be more intensive predator control there.

Franny says that we really want to make sure our predator control efforts are working to protect the species we are aiming to protect. Predators that don’t get caught can have a massive impact!
