McCormacks bay bird hunt

September 10, 2021 Posted by Kiwi Conservation Club

Report by Sam, Age 11

The other day I went for a bike ride around McCormacks bay and I saw a Kingfisher on a pole. Then at that very moment it swooped down and grabbed a crab! As we went on we say more cool birds.

Kingfisher swooping in on a crab!

I saw a Black bird, a silver eye, a Kingfisher, a swan, a sparrow, some ducks and a white faced heron. When I saw the blackbird it was hiding behind a wood pole. He didn’t get scared when we rode past but when we walked closer to him he ran away. We found a tree with sweet honey on it and we found out that silver eyes like to eat that honey and that humans can have it to!

I really enjoyed it and I think it would be a nice walk/bike when you are in lockdown so you have something to do.
