Petrels at Mauao – A shared KCC Te Puke and KCC Tauranga activity
Saturday evening 27 May, 6 – 7:30pm
Did you know Mauao is one of the few mainland headlands where Grey-Faced Petrels breed around northern New Zealand? For the past 20 years Forest and Bird and Mauao Wildlife Trust volunteers have been working to provide a safe home for the breeding pairs of Grey-Faced Petrels on the cliffs of Mount Maunganui.
At this time of year they are preparing their burrows around Mauao for the coming nesting season.
Ornithologist Paul Cummings will take us on a trip around Mauao to catch and weigh petrels, and talk to us about these special sea birds.
