Parihaka day picnic

Join the Golden Bay Peace Group on their Parihaka day picnic. The event commemorates the nonviolent response to the invasion of Parihaka inspired by Te Whiti and Tohu, and will focusing attention on the many shared values of peace, equality and nonviolence that arise from the history of Parihaka.

Don’t forget to bring your kono lanterns that Paddy taught us to make at our September kcc weaving workshop to light your way to the beach at the end of the event!

**Please note this event is organised by Golden Bay Peace Group not KCC.**

5.00 pm  The welcoming of the Waka ama group with waiata and flying kites at Pohara beach

5.30 pm  Walk to Pohara hall for the picnic, retelling of the story “Remember that November” by Jennifer Beck and an open mic (anyone welcome to perform a short peace related song/poem/story)

7.30 pm  Light our candles/lanterns and return to the beach to farewell the waka crew with a waiata.

What To Bring:
A picnic, kites, woven kono and candle, warm clothes, torch

To join this event, please bring an adult who is responsible for you!
