Moutohora Island Sanctuary

A visit to pest free Moutohora, home to many endangered species. It is a 15 minute boat ride aboard “The Moutohora Cat” catamaran from Whakatane. The fully guided tour allows visitors to learn about the flora and fauna and the conservation effort focused on Moutohora for the past 50 years.
This is a 4-4.5 hr tour of one of NZ’s most protected wildlife sanctuaries. On the trip we will:
-Have the chcance to see some of the island’s special wildlife including saddleback/tieke, kakariki, little brown kiwi, bellbirds, tui, grey warbler and many species of sea birds.

-See its NZ fur seal colony for an up close look.

-Visit Sulphur Bay where there is a chance to dig your own pool and enjoy the geothermal hot springs where they come up through the sand.

-Walk to the Island’s saddle with views of White Island

What To Bring:
Warm layers for boat trip -Hiking boots/sturdy shoes -*Suitable backpack - (*bio security guidelines don't allow drawstring/open bags) -Swimwear and towel (optional, you may want a swim at the hot water beach) -Sun hat/sunscreen/sunglasses -Lunch and snacks -Plenty of water
