Hey Guys,

These shell barrier beaches between State Highway 1 motorway and Devonport peninsula are great habitats for sea birds and of special interest to conservationists. We hope to observe Caspian terns, wrybills, dotterel and reef heron as they rest up on the shell banks at high tide(11.44am).

We will be joined by Emma Cronin who is Seabird Liaison officer for Forest and Bird. Emma’s special interest is helping to protect sea birds from fishing practices in the Hauraki Gulf. This outing will hone children’s observation skills and educate them about our responsibility towards seabirds especially with recreational fishing.

The exact meeting point will be confirmed closer to the event.
