Monitoring katipo spiders numbers. For the last 8 years we have been doing a monitoring activity for DOC when we look under onduline shelters that DOC has placed in the sand dunes and count how many katipo spiders we can see.
We have a safety briefing at the start and this is a valuable monitoring exercise that we do twice a year to help DOC.
More details if you are interested in coming. It’s not an activity for younger children as we walk quite a long distance along the beach and young children get a bit lost in the tall maram grass we have to walk through to get to the shelters!
What To Bring:
We need long trousers for everyone, gardening gloves and strong walking shoes and socks.
To join this event, please bring an adult who is responsible for you!
