Bush Safety and Walk in the Hunua Ranges

In preparation for our overnight tramp to the Pinnacles Hut join us for an introduction to safety when walking in the bush. Colleen from the Howick Tramping Club will tell us what we need to consider taking in our backpacks.

Following our safety briefing we will take the Suspension Bridge Track to practise our new skills. The walk will take between 1½ to 2 hours and we will have lunch at the Wairoa Dam.  After lunch you may return to the carpark in your own time.

This day is suitable for everyone over 5 years. In places the track is steep with tree roots and steps so it is not suitable for pushchairs.

Meet

In the carpark in Otau Valley Road at 10am.  From Hunua Village, drive along Hunua Road for 8km. Turn left in Moumoukai Road and after 1km veer left onto Otau Valley Road that leads to the Wairoa Dam.  A car park is downhill on the left just before the large Wairoa dam sign on the first gate.

Please book for this at the email above or use our online booking form here.

What To Bring:
Wear good walking shoes and bring your day pack ready for a day in the bush. Think about what you will need if you get hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, wet, hurt or lost. Some essentials are lunch, full drink bottle, raincoat, warm jumper…

To join this event, please bring an adult who is responsible for you!
